Last night I attended a Maybelline event at the Crosby Hotel where Christy Turlington premiered a teaser for her documentary No Woman, No Cry, which brings attention to maternal health and mortality. This is actually a topic that doesn’t receive too much attention in the United States so it’s great to see her channeling her celebrity into a good cause- especially the fact that she took the initiative and directed it. I think this is probably very different than the BBC flying Lindsay Lohan to India for a week, which could’ve only been some sort of well meaning social experiment… You can read more about Christy’s movie here.
As for Christy, she looked just as I had imagined, her hair and makeup totally effortless and just very natural. She definitely had that late 80s/early 90s “supermodel” quality about her. To be honest, I was not a big fan of her outfit ( a black, loose-fitting knee-length jumper that kind of looked like it had been left on the G-Star sale rack) but maybe it was the fact that she wore black nylons with it as well that made it all look pretty drab. But hey, she’s a supermodel, which basically gives her license to wear whatever she wants.
And speaking of semi-retired supermodels, Paulina Porizkova has an entertaining blog post on Huffington where she blatantly calls out Alexandra Kerry and Anna Wintour for being rude. I love how blunt Czechs can be… It reminds me of my dad. Plus she’s a total bad ass: I helped out on a shoot for Czech In Style in the fall and she drove to the location on her own vespa with her hair and makeup already done. And she took the time out to talk to this very awkward teenager who obviously recognized her from judging America’s Next Top Model and had been oogling her for an hour.
